Once you have chosen which category(s) to enter, follow the guidelines for that specific award. Each submission must be accompanied by a completed entry form. You can view more detail by clicking on each of the 8 awards categories below:

Entry format
Entries should be paper based, A4, typed, unbound submissions.

Executive summary or introduction
Should your entry be nominated for an award, extracts from the executive summary or introduction may be used as source material for the awards show and subsequent editorial coverage.

Supporting materials
Please supply 4 copies of any supporting visuals and materials that can fit into a single A4 box file for each entry. Where an entry is submitted for more than one category, a separate set of supporting materials must be supplied. If you would like the judges to view a website or other online service, please provide whichever passwords are required to access the site, or 4 copies of the site in CD ROM, disk, video or printed format.

Multiple entries
Companies may enter work in more than one category, provided that each entry has been tailored to address the particular requirements of the category concerned and is accompanied by a separate entry form and set of supporting materials.

Who can enter?
Any company involved in marketing, business and technology across the nutraceutical and functional food industries. This can be submitted independently or in conjunction with an agency, or as an agency acting on behalf — and with the full authorisation — of the client.

Confidentiality
All entries will be subject to the strictest confidentiality. See the judging process.

Entry fee
There is no entry fee for the NBT Awards.

Closing Date
February 14th, 2012

All nominated companies that reach the short list stage are required to have company representation at the event.

Awards Categories

1. Most Innovative Ingredient
Focus on creativity, formulation and innovation

The Innovative Ingredient Award is given to a research organization or company to honour the development of a novel active or functional component that combines innovative science or new product features in a way that demonstrates substantial benefits to end-user populations when compared with existing ingredients for that disease condition or health management application.

Judging criteria
• Technical advancement
• Benefit to manufacturers
• Scientific merit
• Breadth of application.

2. Most Effective Strategic Product Development
Focus on effective planning and project management

Entries for this award must demonstrate how a programme was implemented at the front end of the innovation process to incorporate new product strategy, market analysis, opportunity identification and the alignment of technology and research to overcome development challenges and respond to market needs. Evidence of the identification and commercialization of technologies that address emerging trends and new product requirements will be needed.

• Creativity or innovation
• Measurable outcomes

3. Outstanding Application in Health Management
Focus on applied R&D for health and well-being

This award will be presented to an individual, team or organization that has made a significant contribution to a specific area of healthcare and well-being. Submissions could cite a scientific breakthrough, a novel formulation or delivery technique, clinically proven results, regulatory approval, a new indication or route of administration in, for example, gut, cardiovascular, joint/bone, cognitive or infant health.

• Scientific integrity.

4. Most Effective Marketing Campaign
Focus on responsible and effective communication

Submissions must catalogue the aims of the campaign or communication, how it linked to the brand’s wider commercial strategy and indicate to what extent each target was achieved. The judges will be looking for product and service promotions targeting the healthcare industry and/or the general public. They will also expect innovation, effective execution or interpretation and creative flair.

• Best practice communication
• Improved awareness.

5. Environmental Excellence
Focus on corporate social responsibility and the environment

This award will celebrate the most successful green innovators and environmental breakthroughs. The judges will be looking for evidence of leadership and innovation in the fields of biodiversity, conservation, sustainable use, benefits sharing and education, reduced waste and energy efficiency. Nominations may focus on broad initiatives that contribute to conservation or those more specifically linked to a product or supply chain.

• Supply chain efficiency
• Carbon reduction
• Cultural awareness.

6. Most Improved Product Safety and Quality
Focus on QA/QC, compliance and standards

For this award, the judges will be looking for evidence of investment in new technologies, processes, practices or employee training to improve the safety and/or quality of your products. You will be expected to provide tangible proof that this outlay in quality assurance has provided a positive financial return, compliance with known standards and/or other value-adding benefits.

7. Best New Plant/Process/Technology
Focus on know-how/expertise

This award recognizes state-of-the-art manufacturing or production projects that utilize new and innovative technologies to enhance the delivery of a quality project, as well as reduce the cost of producing high quality nutraceuticals. The award spotlights the accomplishments, commitment and dedication of companies to innovate and advance functional food production technology for the benefit of all global consumers.

Judging criteria
• Process Simplification
• Reduction of time and/or cost
• Improved use of resources
• Effective use of technology.

8. Best New Finished Product
Focus on new product development

This award goes to the company that has developed a market-leading product that, through excellence in research, development and/or manufacturing, has resulted in the launch of an exciting and innovative new offering in the dietary supplement, cosmeceutical, functional food and drinks sector that targets the end-user or consumer and has a proven history of safety, efficacy and quality.

• Benefit to consumers
• Scientific credibility
• Health benefit
